What does it actually mean to have a growth mindset?

According to Harvard Business Review, individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others) have a growth mindset. They tend to achieve more than those with a more fixed mindset (those who believe their talents are innate gifts).

This is because they worry less about looking smart and they put more energy into learning. When entire companies embrace a growth mindset, their employees report feeling far more empowered and committed; they also receive far greater organizational support for collaboration and innovation.

Characteristics of Growth Mindset People

Passion for Learning. People with a growth mindset have a desire to keep learning.
Self-Belief. Whenever people with a growth mindset encounter challenges, they have the belief they will overcome them. Once they manage to do so, they use the experience to understand why they were there this will improve their learning and experience.
Calculated Risks. This means taking risks and accepting the possibility of failure as opposed to being afraid to try.
Live in the Moment. Beliving in living in the here and now. Focus on the present and accept the past is the past and we can’t do anything about it hence there is no need to worrry about what might have happened.
Actions Counts. They understand that they need a starting point, but from there they can take action. By doing, they can apply their knowledge and it is this conscious practice that makes them successful. They step out of their comfort zone.
Self-Disciplined and Positive. When it comes to being successful and getting what they want, they are aware of the fact that they have to work on it to achieve it. This commitment allows them to focus fully on the ultimate goal and their rigorous efforts and determination enable them to succeed. They go beyond their basic skills and find a path to success with a positive attitude.

Having a growth mindset is important because it can help you overcome obstacles you may face when learning something new or developing a new skill. Growth mindsets understand the importance of persistence and determination and working on thinking patterns that will help you become successful. By changing the way you think, you can change the way you learn.
